Managing Weight and Eating Healthy
Welcome to Wholesale Wellness' new Community Health and Wellness blog. The purpose of our blog is to provide you with information and tips for how to maintain your health and wellness in the fight against obesity. Our first blog post is about simple and effective ways to manage your weight and tips for eating healthy.
It's no secret that obesity has quickly become a huge issue in our country. Fast food chains seemingly pop up on every corner offering convenient, cheap, and quick ways to feed hungry families. It's hard not to give in to convenience. Here, I am going to suggest a few quick and easy changes one can make in one's daily life to combat unhealthy lifestyle choices to promote managing weight and creating healthier eating habits.
According to Matt McMillan, in his article "The Best Foods to Eat to Beat Heart Disease", "A healthy diet helps lower cholesterol, inflammation, blood pressure, and more, which in turn helps you achieve and maintain a healthy weight". So where do you start? Simple changes to your shopping habits can change the way you pick out foods to eat and prepare in your home. The freshest and healthiest food with no preservatives is going to be found on the outer parameter of any grocery store. The further you go into the aisles, the more unwanted junk you're going to find in your food items. Managing your weight starts with what you're putting into your body.
Exercise plans seem to be a more daunting task. Alena Hall wrote in her Forbes Health article "8 Pieces Of Expert Fitness Advice For 2023" that "The single best thing you can do to improve your health is… drumroll please… exercise". The biggest thing is to plan and set realistic goals. Don't plan on working out 2 hours a day 5 days a week to start with. Have a set goal in mind like being able to run a 5K and plan on building up to that goal by taking it one day at a time. Second, plan and stick to a routine. Set time aside each day you plan on exercising and make a habit of sticking to that plan. It is best to create an exercise routine that works for you in your lifestyle. Not all of us can or want to go to a gym. With how easily we have access to technology these days, it's simple to find quick and simple workouts that can be done at home with little to no equipment.
Healthy living is not going to happen overnight. Alena Hall also said, “It’s so easy to come up with reasons not to work out on any given day but try not to talk yourself out of it.” There are little adjustments and habits that need to be made on a daily basis to create a healthy lifestyle. There are no shortcuts or cheat days in life. Crash diets don't work in the long-term scheme of things. To live healthily, you need to change how you are living and the decisions you are making day-to-day.

Hello, I think that you posted some great tips to help in the fight against heart disease and obesity. I agree that the outside isles of the grocery store are the best areas to do most of your grocery shopping. I wish that they healthy food would cost as much as the unhealthy choices! Like you said "healthy living is not going to happen overnight", I think small changes in diet can add up to a healthier overall lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteYou brought up a lot of great points, and provided excellent tips. I read an article that stated, 2 out 3 Americans are obese. I knew we had a problem but I didn't think it was going to be that extreme. Now with Door Dash and Uber Eats it’s even easier and a lot more convenient to get fast food. Not only that but the unhealthier options are cheaper than the healthy options.
